Filmmaker Onir responds to K Jo's rant on film clashes, highlighting disparity in the Industry

Renowned filmmaker Onir has offered his perspective on Karan Johar's recent rant about film clashes in the industry.

Karan Johar had expressed his frustration over studios scheduling releases on the same day without any prior communication. In response, Onir took to Twitter to shed light on the disparity between big-budget Bollywood releases and smaller indie films.

Onir's tweet emphasized that major Bollywood releases tend to get upset when faced with another big-budget film on the same day, preaching about industry unity and mutual support. However, they seemingly overlook the impact of their actions on small-budget indie films, depriving them of essential screen time and limiting their chances of survival.

The incident that triggered the discussion involved the clash between Karan Johar's upcoming production, "Yodha," an action film starring Sidharth Malhotra, Disha Patani, and Raashi Khanna, and "Merry Christmas," a dark comedy thriller directed by Sriram Raghvan, co-produced by Ramesh Taurani's Tips Industries, and starring Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi. Both films are slated for release on December 15.

Karan Johar's "Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani," his seventh directorial venture, is set to hit theaters on July 28. The film's official trailer has already generated significant excitement among audiences due to its impressive ensemble cast, grandeur, and musical score.

Onir, who gained recognition in Bollywood with the film "My Brother Nikhil" in 2005, later received a National Award for his directorial work in "I Am" in 2011.
